A survey on travelling in local train

Authors: Vishakha Karamchandani, Devang, Bipin Yadav

Introduction: The safety of local train travel is a critical consideration for commuters and travellers worldwide. Local trains, often serving as vital arteries for urban and suburban transportation, play a crucial role in facilitating daily commutes and short-distance travel. However, the safety of these services is subject to various factors, ranging from infrastructure maintenance and security measures to crowd management and emergency response systems.

Objective: To understand the safety levels in local trains.

Literature Review: In the context of public infrastructure, it is crucial to study diversity and differences to ensure inclusivity and universality in design thinking. The current literature suggests a need for further exploration of universal design principles in public transportation, considering the varied needs of a heterogeneous population for a truly inclusive and accessible commuting experience.

Data Collection: 5 statements were put on a Google form and were circulated to 100 students of ITM. For every statement – mean, standard deviation, standard error, and t-stat were calculated. This data was primarily collected by the members of the group.

Data Analysis:

MEAN 3.29 3.28 3.5 3.8 3.77 3.73
SD 1.300143499 1.209203353 1.118610028 0.997006445 1.026950784 1.132347055
SE 0.130669338 0.12152951 0.112424538 0.100202918 0.103212437 0.113805161
TSTAT 2.21934238 2.303967168 4.447427667 7.98379944 7.460341224 6.414471833

Conclusion:

Statement 1: I feel safe and convenient in local trains.

For statement 1, accept the alternative hypothesis as T-stat = 2.22 which is more than 1.96. Conclusion is people feel safe in local trains.

Statement 2: I consider metro trains are better than local trains.

For statement 2, accept the alternative hypothesis as T-stat = 2.303 which is more than 1.96. Conclusion is metro trains are better than local trains.

Statement 3: Local trains are late sometimes due to which I face difficulties.

For statement 3, accept the alternative hypothesis as T-stat = 4.44 which is more than 1.96. conclusion, yes local trains are late sometimes due to which people faced difficulties.

Statement 4: I think local trains can be more upgraded and better facilities can be installed.

For statement 4, accept the alternative hypothesis as T-stat = 7.983 which is more than 1.96. Conclusion, Local trains need to be upgraded.

Statement 5: I think more safety measures should be added in local trains.

For statement 5, accept the alternative hypothesis as T-stat = 6.414 which is more than 1.96. Conclusion, more safety measures should be added in local trains.
