EFFICIENCY OF ONLINE EDUCATION

Introduction –

Ever since the outbreak of the worldwide pandemic Coronavirus, everything has gone online. Through the research we are aiming to conclude whether online learning is preferable to offline learning as the most schools and colleges converted to online learning
during this pandemic.

Objective –

This research was conducted in order to understand the effectiveness of virtual mode of teaching. The questions asked to the respondents were specific to the scope of peer-to-peer learning in online scenario.
Research Topic: Effectivity of online education

Sub areas of Research:
1. Integrity of online examination
2.Student engagement on virtual platform
3.Efficiency of virtual peer to peer learning

We have chosen sub area “Efficiency of virtual peer to peer learning” for our research.

Data collection –

For the given problem five questions were framed on Likert scale.
We have decided to investigate the aforementioned statements of the Efficiency of virtual per to peer learning, by means of an online survey. We have designed a survey form for our batch consisting of 105 students, to get insights on the perspectives on the diverse thinking. This form is targeted to evaluate the efficacy of cross – functional thinking in terms of peer to peer learning and of different aspects.

1. Physical and virtual peer to peer learning are different
2. I interact with my batch mates often in online classes
3. I know about my teammate’s skills.
4. I often discuss doubts online with batch-mates
5. I often ask about achievements of my batch-mates

We have assumed these five statements as “null hypothesis.”
Respectively, the “alternative hypothesis” are:

1. Physical and virtual peer to peer learning are not different
2. I do not interact with my batch mates often in online classes
3. I do not know about my teammate’s skills.
4. I often don’t discuss doubts online with batch-mates
5. I often don’t ask about achievements of my batch-mates

A total of 100 people responded to the survey.
The Five options provided on the Likert scale were “Strongly Disagree”, “Disagree”, “Neutral”, “Agree” and “Strongly Agree”. We converted the collected data into an excel sheet, and the result was calculated with the formula: Z=(X-µ)/SE, where µ was taken as ‘3’. (Since the scale was from 1 to 5)

Data Analysis

Steps of Analysis:
•The collected data from the questionnaire was coded as 5,4,3,2 &1.
•The respective descriptive statistics of the questions were then calculated thereby giving us the mean, no. of sample and standard deviation values.
•The Standard Error of the data was then calculated using the standard deviation.
•For the calculation of z value, the confidence interval used is 95% .The z-value is then calculated and analysed.

Mean
1) 3.34
2) 3.74
3) 2.83
4) 4.4
5) 3.16

Standard Deviation
1) 0.955
2) 1.185
3) 1.0155
4) 0.8528
5) 1.032

Standard Error
1) 0.0955
2) 0.1185
3) 0.1015
4) 0. 0.0852
5) 0.1032

Z-Value
1. 0.3434
2. 6.72
3. -1.68
4. 17.5
5. -1.55

Results
1) Z Value is Positive
2) Z Value is Positive
3) Z Value is Negative
4) Z Value is Positive
5) Z Value is Negative

Findings

According to the survey:
1)Physical and virtual peer to peer learning are different. Null hypothesis is true.
2)People interact with batch mates often in online classes. Null hypothesis is true.
3)The candidates are not aware about their teammate’s skills. Alternative hypothesis is true.
4)They often discuss doubts online with batch-mates. Null hypothesis is true.
5) They don’t often ask about achievements of their batch-mates. Alternative hypothesis is true.
