Introduction:

In the wake of the pandemic, education is now being imparted through the online mode and platform. Online- learning is a learning approach that is based on formalized instruction but uses electronic resources. Students, parents, faculty members all have adapted to this new form of teaching methodology. However, is the online method of learning a successful method.

Research problem :

Our research problem statement – is online method of learning as effective as the traditional method.

Hence the null hypothesis (H0) : the online method of learning is as effective as traditional method

Alternate hypothesis (H1) : the online method of learning is NOT as effective as traditional method.

The research problem is further divided into sub – problem statements :

Sub problem 1 – do students face any problem in the inline method of learning
To evaluate this problem, 5 questions were framed. The null and alternate hypothesis of these statements will be:

1. H0 – Students have access to all the resources to learn concepts
H1- Students do not have access to all the resources to learn concepts

2. H0 – Students are attentive during online classes
H1- Students are not attentive during online classes

3. H0 – Students can easily understand the concepts in online mode
H1- Students cannot easily understand the concepts in online mode

4. H0 – Students can concentrate in online classes
H1- Students cannot concentrate in online classes

5. H0 – Students can solve doubts in online mode
H1- Students cannot solve doubts in online mode

Sub problem 2 – are marks/results of online examination reliable like traditional exams.

Sub problem 3 – do students have the infrastructure needed for online learning.

Data collection:

A questionnaire comprising of five questions was used to collect the information from respondents. The responses were collected on the basis of 5-point Likert Scale. The sample size consisted of 102 students pursuing post-graduation degree. All the respondents are students of NMIMS, Navi Mumbai. Prior to the respondents filling out the questionnaire, the purpose of the questionnaire was explained to each of them. In order to fill out the questionnaire correctly, proper instructions were written on the questionnaire and additional instructions were given to the respondents.

Data Analysis:

We have performed the One sample T-Test to analyze our responses. We have coded our responses as follows:
Response Code
Strongly Agree 5
Agree 4
Neutral 3
Disagree 2
Strongly Disagree 1

We will test our hypothesis at 95% Confidence level.
At first, the mean and standard deviation values are calculated. The standard error is calculated using the formula:

Likewise, the t-statistic is calculated and compared with the z-value.
Based on the T-Statistic, the Results have been achieved. If the t-statistic is more than 1.96, the statement is Positively Accepted. When the statement is between -1.96 to 1.96, the statement is Neutral. When the T-Statistic is less than -1.96, the statement is Rejected Negatively. Based on these results, the conclusions have been made.

Data Findings:

Statements I have access to all resources I need to learn the concepts I am fully attentive during online classes I can easily understand the concepts in online mode I can concentrate in the online classes I can solve my doubts in the online mode
MEAN 3.2843 2.5000 2.7255 2.5490 2.7059
STANDARD DEVIATION 1.1972 0.9622 1.0163 1.0401 1.1739
STANDARD ERROR 0.1185 0.0953 0.1006 0.1030 0.1162
T-STAT 2.3985 -5.2484 -2.7280 -4.3792 -2.5305
RESULT POSITIVE NEGATIVE NEGATIVE NEGATIVE NEGATIVE

The table shows the results (Positive/Negative/Neutral) for each question. Based on these findings we have made our conclusions.

Conclusions:

Our statements can be concluded as:

• Question 1: Accept H0- Students have access to all resources they need to learn the concepts
• Question 2: Accept H1 – Students are not Fully attentive during online classes
• Question 3: Accept H1 – Students cannot easily understand the concepts in online mode
• Question 4: Accept H1- Students cannot concentrate in the online classes
• Question 5: Accept H1- Students cannot solve doubts in the online mode

Hence, on the basis of our analysis we accept our Alternate hypothesis, H1 – online method of learning is not as effective as traditional method.
