Survey to find which soap is preferred by general public

Title : Survey to find which soap is preferred by general public

Author : Bushra Shaikh – 45

Introduction:

The aim of this survey is to find out which soap brand people prefer the most by comparing options like Dove, Lux, Dettol, and Pears. Responses were collected from individuals who rated each soap based on their personal experience and satisfaction.

Objective:

To understand the preferences of consumers and see whether there is a difference in how people rate these soap brands.

Literature Review:

1. A study on personal care products in India showed that people usually choose soaps based on fragrance, skin type, price, and brand trust. Some brands are preferred for soft skin benefits, while others are chosen for hygiene and protection.

2. Another study on FMCG products found that advertisements, quality, and past experience influence customer choices. It also showed that people often stick to brands they trust and feel comfortable using regularly.

Data Collection:

The data was collected through a survey using Google Forms. People were asked to rate different soap brands based on their own usage and opinion. This helped in understanding which brands are more liked and preferred by consumers.

Data Analysis:

A one-way ANOVA test was conducted to examine whether there is a significant difference in the average ratings of four soap brands: Dove, Lux, Dettol, and Pears. From the summary of responses, Dove has the highest average rating (mean ≈ 7.9), followed by Pears (mean ≈ 7.6), while Dettol (mean ≈ 6.6) and Lux (mean ≈ 6.2) have relatively lower average ratings. This shows a clear variation in consumer preferences among the four brands.

The graphical distribution also supports this, as Dove and Pears have more ratings in the higher range (8–10), whereas Lux and Dettol have more moderate and lower ratings. This indicates that consumers tend to prefer Dove and Pears over the other brands.

Conclusion:

From the responses, it is clear that people have different preferences when it comes to soap brands. Factors like quality, fragrance, and skin suitability influence their choices, and not all brands are rated the same.
