Author : Pranay Zagade. (109)
1.Introduction:
The earphone industry has experienced significant growth in recent years, driven by increasing smartphone usage and the rising demand for portable audio devices. Consumers today evaluate earphones based on multiple factors such as sound quality, battery performance, comfort, durability, and brand reputation. Leading brands like Sony, boat, Realme, and OnePlus compete in a highly dynamic market by offering diverse product features at different price points.
Understanding consumer preferences is essential for identifying market trends and brand positioning. This study aims to analyze and compare customer satisfaction levels across selected earphone brands using statistical techniques. A one-way ANOVA test is applied to determine whether there are significant differences in user ratings among the brands.
2.Objective:
To analyze consumer preferences for different earphone brands.
To examine whether there is a significant difference in satisfaction levels across brands using ANOVA.
3.Literature review:
According to Lokeshwaran and Praveen (2023), consumer preferences for audio devices are primarily influenced by sound quality, brand reputation, and price sensitivity. Their study highlights that premium brands such as Sony are perceived to offer superior audio performance, leading to higher customer satisfaction.
According to Qualcomm (2021), the demand for wireless audio devices has increased significantly due to advancements in technology and changing consumer lifestyles. The study found that key factors influencing purchasing decisions include battery life, connectivity, comfort, and sound experience. Brands like Realme and OnePlus focus on integrating these features into affordable products to attract a wider consumer base.
4.Data Collection:
Data was collected using an online Google Form where 30 participants were asked to rate their experience with four earphone brands: Sony, boat, Realme, and OnePlus. Each respondent gave ratings on a scale of 1 to 10. This structured format ensured consistency and allowed for direct comparison of consumer satisfaction across all brands.

A one-way ANOVA test was conducted to compare the average ratings of the four earphone brands.
- F value: 4.23
- F critical value: 2.68
- P-value: 0.01
6.Hypothesis of the Study:
Null Hypothesis (H₀):
There is no significant difference in the average ratings of the selected earphone brands.
Alternative Hypothesis (H₁):
There is a significant difference in the average ratings of at least one earphone brand.
7.Data Interpretation:
The calculated F value (4.23) is greater than the F critical value (2.68). Also, the P-value (0.01) is less than 0.05, which indicates that the result is statistically significant.
8.Conclusion:
The analysis shows that there is a significant difference in consumer preferences among the earphone brands. Therefore, the null hypothesis is rejected. Among the brands, Sony has the highest average rating, making it the most preferred brand, while boat has the lowest average rating among the selected brands.
