INTRODUCTION:

Mobile phone addiction has emerged as a growing behavioral concern in the digital era, especially among students and young adults. Excessive and uncontrolled use of smartphones, particularly during night hours, disrupts normal sleep patterns by delaying sleep onset and reducing sleep quality. Continuous exposure to screen light and mental stimulation interferes with the body’s biological clock, leading to sleep deprivation and fatigue. Therefore, examining the relationship between mobile phone addiction and sleep quality is important for understanding its impact on health and academic performance.

OBJECTIVE:

To understand the underlying phenomena of Mobile Phone Addiction and Sleep Quality

LITERATURE REVIEW:

Several studies have found that excessive smartphone use, especially before bedtime, is significantly associated with poor sleep quality and shorter sleep duration among students. The blue light emitted from screens and continuous mental engagement were identified as major causes of sleep disturbance.

Previous research also indicates that mobile phone addiction leads to increased stress, anxiety, and nighttime awakenings, which negatively affect overall sleep efficiency. These findings suggest that problematic smartphone use is a key behavioral factor influencing sleep health.

DATA COLLECTION:

To understand the underlying of the above problem 5 questions were framed on likert scale

Q1   I use my mobile phone right before going to sleep.

Q2   I stay awake longer at night because of my mobile phone.

Q3   I feel tired the next day due to late-night phone usage.

Q4   I check my phone immediately after waking up in the morning.

Q5   I find it difficult to sleep without using my mobile phone.

Students of ITM College were surveyed which were framed on likert scale. 100 students were surveyed. For each question mean, Standard deviation, Standard error and t-stat were calculated.

DATA ANALYSIS:

Mean 3.38 3.02 2.83 3.09 2.66
Standard deviation  1.38 1.38 1.41 1.36 1.46
Stadard errors  0.14 0.14 0.14 0.14 0.15
t-stat 2.75 0.15 -1.21 0.66 -2.34
                                    Accept Neutral Neutral  Neutral  Reject

CONCLUSION:

  1. People use their mobile phone right before going to sleep.
  2. People are neutral about staying awake longer at night because of my mobile phone.
  3. People are neutral about feeling tired the next day due to late-night phone usage.
  4. People are neutral about checking their phone immediately after waking up in the morning.
  5. People do not find it difficult to sleep without using their mobile phone.
