1. Introduction

Digital payment systems have become an integral part of India’s financial ecosystem, driven by increased smartphone penetration, government initiatives, and convenience factors. Applications such as Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, and WhatsApp Pay dominate the market. Understanding user perception and satisfaction with these platforms is important for service providers, policymakers, and researchers. This study evaluates whether users perceive significant differences in these applications based on their ratings.

2. Objectives of the Study

To analyze user ratings of selected digital payment applications.

To compare the average ratings of Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, and WhatsApp Pay.

To test whether there is a statistically significant difference in user satisfaction among these apps using one-way ANOVA.

3.Literature review:

The rapid adoption of digital payment applications in India has transformed the way consumers conduct financial transactions. This study aims to compare user satisfaction levels across four major digital payment applications—Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, and WhatsApp Pay—using user rating data. A one-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was employed to determine whether there is a statistically significant difference in mean user ratings among these applications. The results indicate that there is no significant difference in average user ratings across the selected payment platforms, suggesting comparable levels of user satisfaction.

4. Data Collection

The study is based on primary data consisting of user ratings on a scale of 1 to 10. A total of 40 responses were collected, with 40 responses for each payment application.

4.1 Sample Design

Sample size: 160 respondents

Applications studied: Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, WhatsApp Pay

Responses per application: 40

 Statistical Tool Used

A one-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was used to test the difference between the mean ratings of the four groups.

 Hypotheses

Null Hypothesis (H₀): There is no significant difference in the mean user ratings of Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, and WhatsApp Pay.

Alternative Hypothesis (H₁): There is a significant difference in the mean user ratings of at least one payment application.

6. Conclusion

The study concludes that there is no significant difference in user ratings among the four major digital payment applications analyzed. This indicates a competitive and mature digital payments market where major players offer comparable levels of service quality and user satisfaction. Future research may include additional variables such as security, customer support, transaction speed, and demographic factors to gain deeper insights.
