1.      INTRODUCTION

The habit of reading newspapers is declining among students in today’s digital era. Excessive use of smartphones and social media has reduced their interest in printed news. This leads to a lack of awareness about current events and general knowledge. Therefore, promoting newspaper reading is important for students’ overall development.

2.      OBJECTIVE

To understand the underlying reasons why students are not reading newspapers.

Newspapers have been a primary source of information for decades, helping people stay informed and aware. However, with the rise of digital media, students are slowly losing interest in printed news. Social media and online platforms now dominate their attention, reducing reading habits and critical thinking. This shift is affecting students’ knowledge, language skills, and awareness of real-world issues.

4.      DATA COLLECTION

To understand the underlying issue of why students are not reading newspapers, five questions were framed using a Likert Scale (5-point scale). A Google Form was created with a linear scale of 1 to 5. The data was coded as 5 for strongly agree, 4 for agree, 3 for neutral, 2 for disagree, and 1 for strongly disagree. A total of 100 students from ITM were surveyed, and the data was downloaded in Excel format. For each question, Mean, Standard Deviation, Standard Error, and T-statistics were calculated.
