Introduction: It’s a Survey report presents an analysis of the ratings provided by students of Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Thums Up, and Mountain Dew.
- Coca-Cola: Coca-Cola, born in 1886 in Atlanta, Georgia, is one of the world’s most iconic beverages. Invented by pharmacist John Stith Pemberton, it was originally intended as a medicinal tonic. Over the decades, it has transformed into a global symbol of refreshment, with a secret recipe that remains one of the most closely guarded secrets in the world. The Coca-Cola Company, which produces this fizzy drink, now offers a diverse range of products across various categories, from sodas to energy drinks and even bottled water. Its famous logo and advertisements are embedded in pop culture, epitomizing the brand’s status as a quintessential part of the American dream.
- Pepsi: Pepsi, created in 1893 by Caleb Bradham, a pharmacist in North Carolina, was originally known as “Brad’s Drink.” It was rebranded as Pepsi-Cola in 1898, combining the terms “pepsin” and “cola,” reflecting the digestive enzyme and kola nuts used in the recipe. Pepsi has been a fierce competitor to Coca-Cola for over a century, carving out its own niche in the global market with bold marketing campaigns and a distinct taste. The PepsiCo company now owns a diverse portfolio of brands beyond just beverages, including snacks and other food products. Their slogan, “For the love of it,” captures the brand’s energetic and fun ethos.
- Thums Up: Thums Up, introduced in 1977, is one of India’s most beloved cola brands. Founded by Ramesh Chauhan and his brother Prakash Chauhan, it quickly became popular due to its strong, fizzy flavor and unique branding. Known for its distinctive, bold taste, Thums Up has a loyal following in India and a reputation for being “toofani” (stormy). After Coca-Cola re-entered the Indian market in the 1990s, it acquired Thums Up, yet the brand retained its strong identity and continues to thrive. If you’ve ever had Thums Up, you know it’s more than just a drink—it’s a taste of Indian cola heritage.
- Mountain Dew: Mountain Dew, a citrus-flavored soft drink, was created in the 1940s by Barney and Ally Hartman, Tennessee beverage bottlers. Initially, it was a mixer for whiskey. The name “Mountain Dew” is a slang term for homemade whiskey, also called moonshine. PepsiCo acquired the brand in 1964, and it has since become synonymous with high energy and extreme sports, with its bold and tangy taste and vibrant green color.
Objective: To compare the rating of soft drinks.
Data Collection: Recently, I conducted a survey through Google Forms to explore ratings given to 4 different soft drinks. With responses from students, got an understanding which drink is favoured by students. The rating was given on the scale of 1 to 10 of 4 soft drinks.
Data Analysis: The ANOVA: Single Factor test was performed to compare the means of the ratings across the four genres.
The hypotheses for the test are:
- Null Hypothesis (H0): There is no significant difference in the average ratings of Horror, Sci-Fi, Action, and Comedy movies.
- Alternate Hypothesis (H1) At least one of the genres has a significantly different average rating.
The results of the ANOVA: Single Factor test are as follows:

Above table shows P-vale as 0.42 which is more than 0.05 which means We accept the null Hypothesis.
Conclusion: The p-value we found was 0.42. Since this is higher than the usual cutoff of 0.05, we do not reject the null hypothesis. In other words, it seems there is no significant effect or difference between soft drinks.
