Introduction:

Effective communication is essential for the success of group projects. When team members fail to share ideas clearly or misunderstand each other, it can lead to significant challenges. Poor communication can result in missed deadlines, duplicated work, and even conflicts, ultimately hindering the project’s progress. This research will examine how these communication issues impact group project outcomes and emphasize the importance of fostering clear and open dialogue to achieve collective goals.

Objective:

To explore how poor communication skills impact the success of group projects.

Article 1:

Effective communication is vital in project management, as it significantly influences the success and smooth operation of a project. A clear communication plan is essential for sharing critical information, such as goals, expectations, and status updates, among all stakeholders. By addressing the unique challenges of temporary projects, project managers can enhance collaboration and prevent misunderstandings.

Article 2:

This paper explores the impact of communication on construction project success, highlighting that formal communication can lead to conflicts, while informal communication fosters trust. It finds that task conflict can be beneficial for project outcomes, but process and relationship conflicts hinder success. The study underscores the project manager’s role in enhancing communication and reducing negative conflicts.

Data Collection:

To understand how poor communication skills affect group project success, a survey was conducted with ITM students using Google Forms.

The survey included five questions about communication in group projects. Students rated their agreement on a five-point Likert scale, from 1 (Strongly Disagree) to 5 (Strongly Agree):

  1. I found it easy to communicate in group projects.
  2. I listened attentively to my teammates.
  3. I shared my ideas clearly.
  4. I felt confident when speaking.
  5. I provided helpful feedback.

Students of ITM Business School were surveyed. For every question, mean, standard error, and Z value was calculated.
