Research Study on Sleep Deprivation among college students

Introduction:

Sleep deprivation is a common issue among college students, affecting their academic performance, mental health, and daily life. This survey aims to explore the extent of sleep deprivation among students of ITM Skills University, Kharghar, and identify its causes and consequences. By analysing students’ sleep patterns and coping strategies, this report seeks to highlight the impact of poor sleep on overall well-being and academic success.

 

Objective:

To understand the underlying phenomenon of Sleep deprivation among college students of ITM Skills University.

Review:

This research investigates the impact of sleep deprivation on emotional intelligence, demonstrating decreased ability to recognize and manage emotions.

The results highlight the importance of adequate sleep for emotional regulation and well-being.

 

Data Collection:

Following 5 questions were framed on Likert Scale and students of ITM Skills University, were surveyed and the data was coded as 1 for strongly agree and 5 for strongly disagree, for each question mean, standard deviation, standard error and Z-scores were calculated.

 

Data Analysis:

For Data Analysis we have used Descriptive statistics and z-scores. Here are the following results of the analysis.

Q1) I struggled to stay awake in class due to lack of sleep.

 

Q2) I often pulled all-nighters to study.

 

Q3) I woke up tired.

 

Q4) I limited caffeine/energy drinks.

 

Q5) I sought help for sleep deprivation.

Conclusion:

1) Students struggled to stay awake in class due to lack of sleep is neutral.

2) Apparently students often pulled all-nighters to study.

3) Usually, students woke up tired due to sleep deprivation.

4) Students didn’t limit caffeine/energy drinks.

5) Some students report seeking help for sleep deprivation.
