INTRODUCTION:

Irregular sleeping habits among students can profoundly impact their academic performance, cognitive function, and overall well-being, highlighting the importance of establishing healthy sleep patterns for academic success. To conduct our research, we surveyed 100 students from our college. This research aims to explore the importance of establishing healthy sleep patterns for academic success.

Objective:

To investigate the effects of irregular sleeping patterns on college students’ academic performance, mental health, and overall quality of life for informed interventions.

Literature review:

The study examines how COVID-19 altered the lifestyles of 164 Korean college students, affecting mental health and sleep quality. Results show a decline in both mental health and sleep quality. Changes in habits like reduced outdoor activity and increased screen time were observed, exacerbating the negative impact.

A study examines the sleep patterns and sleepiness of working college students. Findings reveal insufficient sleep duration, averaging less than 6 hours per night. Despite consistent sleep-wake cycles, sleepiness increases during evening classes. The study highlights the challenges faced by students balancing work and education.

Data Collection:

For the above problem, we asked 5 questions on a Likert scale of 1 to 5 where 1 is strongly disagree and 5 is strongly agree & data was gathered from students of  100 students who were surveyed for each question mean, standard deviation, standard error, and T-stat was calculated.

  • At 95% confidence level,
  • If T stat > 1.96, accept positively.
  • If T stat is between 1.96 and –1.96, accept neutrally.
  • If T stat < 1.96, accept negatively.

Conclusions :

  1. Students experienced laziness during lectures.
  2. Students frequently arrive late for collage.
  3. Students neutrally skip their lectures.
  4. Students feel drowsy during class.
  5. Students struggle to concentrate during lectures.
