Authors: Mahesh More, Dipak Radhe, Akash Pujari.
Introduction:
The addictive nature of the Facebook app is a growing concern, marked by excessive usage patterns and negative consequences on users’ daily lives. Understanding the mechanisms behind this addiction is crucial for devising effective strategies to mitigate its impact.
Objectives:
The objective of this study is to investigate the underlying factors contributing to Facebook app addiction and its repercussions on users’ behavior and well-being.
Literature Review:
BERSHIDSKY(2017) shares his personal experience in combating smartphone addiction, detailing the steps he took to regain control over his digital habits. He highlights the widespread nature of smartphone addiction across generations and discusses strategies he employed, such as uninstalling social networking apps and disabling notifications, to break free from constant connectivity. Bershidsky emphasizes the need for deliberate action to reclaim attention from smartphones and suggests that adjusting to a healthier digital lifestyle is achievable with determination.
NIKBIN et al(2020) examines the relationship between daily stress, depression symptoms, and Facebook Addiction Disorder (FAD) in Germany and the United States. Findings from samples in both countries indicate a positive association between daily stress and FAD, with depression symptoms exacerbating this relationship. The study suggests that depressed individuals may turn to intensive Facebook use as a coping mechanism, increasing their risk of developing FAD and worsening their symptoms. Interventions targeting depressed individuals should focus on alternative strategies for managing daily stressors.
