Introduction:

As from the day we have joined the college, we have been travelling by bus from Santacruz station to SNDT University. But we have observed that the bus timings are not managed properly. Also there is a lot of rush because of which we get late to reach the college. Since there is a sufficient no. of crowd travelling daily we have conducted a survey whether we need a private bus service from Santacruz station to SNDT.

Objective:

To understand the underlying issue of unavailability of bus service from Santacruz station to SNDT.

Literature Review:

Raj, S.(2024) states that “For a city to thrive, it must connect its people efficiently. Public bus services leading to significant issues for commuters. Mere proximity to roads is insufficient, as majority of the population cannot afford daily commuting through cars or private transport. Additionally, to optimize urban planning, it’s essential to establish last mile connectivity in areas lacking direct transport links. If the suburban or metro journey ends at a particular station, public buses should be available to take us, making distant locations accessible for everyone.”

Mishra, K. (2023) stated that “Scores of city commuters expressed their frustration over the lack of sufficient public transport on various routes. The absence of adequate buses caused inconvenience to locals, with many struggling to reach their destinations. Commuters face difficulties due to inadequate bus services. Commuters, gathered at prominent locations such as CSMT, Marine Drive, Girgaon, Haji Ali Chowk, and the Gateway, highlighted the difficulties faced due to inadequate nus services. They emphasised that the situation disproportionately affected female and elderly commuters. Waiting times for public transport stretched for hours, forcing some to resort to overpriced taxis due to lack of options.”

Data Collection:

For the problem ‘Unavailability of bus service from Santacruz station to SNDT’, we made a questionnaire consisting of five objective questions and surveyed 100 students on the Likert Scale, scaled 1,2,3,4 and 5 (Strongly Disagree – Strongly Agree) with the help of Google Forms and compiled the data on Excel sheet.

Data Analysis:

For data analysis, we calculated the Mean (X), Standard Deviation (SD), Standard Error (SE) and t-stat (Z) values of each question, i.e. from question 1 to question 5 in the Google Sheets. These statistical tools helped us form results and conclude our survey.
