Introduction: The impact of social media on the well-being of individuals is a complex and multifaceted topic, with both positive and negative aspects. It’s important to note that the effects can vary based on factors such as individual differences, usage patterns, and the nature of social media interactions. The impact of social media on well-being depends on how individuals use these platforms and the context of their interactions. Striking a balance, being mindful of usage, and cultivating positive online experiences can contribute to a healthier relationship with social media

Objective: To understand the underlying phenomena of this problem

Literature Review: Social media fosters a false sense of online “connections” and superficial friendships leading to emotional and psychological problems. The Second harm of social media is that it can become easily addictive taking away family and personal time as well as diminish interpersonal skills, leading to antisocial behavior. Lastly, social media has become a tool for criminals, predators and terrorists enabling them to commit illegal acts. And the third analysis will consist of showing the link between the psychological problems caused by social media and criminal activities committed.

Social media have become a massive and meaningful part of our daily existence.the role of the Internet in dealing with problems in later life by analyzing whether direct and buffering models of social support can be applied to social network site (SNS) use. Whereas the direct model implies a positive effect of time spent using SNSs on subjective well-being, and a negative effect on social loneliness, the buffering model suggests that SNS use should reduce the (negative) consequences of stressors
