Title: An ANOVA-Based Comparison of Consumer Ratings for Selected Fruits
Author: Pranjal Vavhal
Introduction: Banana, Apple, Chikoo, and Mango—were selected to understand consumer preferences. These fruits were chosen due to their wide availability, nutritional value, and popularity across different age groups. The study aims to compare consumer liking and perception of these fruits based on selected attributes. Analyzing preferences among these fruits will help identify significant differences in consumer choices and consumption patterns.
Objective: To understand consumer ratings for selected fruits.
Literature Review:
1) Increasing fruit and vegetable consumption-challenges and opportunities
Sachdeva (2012) said that, inadequate fruit and vegetable consumption is a major contributor to non-communicable diseases globally, particularly cardiovascular diseases and certain cancers. Prior studies cited in the literature highlight strong associations between higher intake of fruits and vegetables and reduced risks of hypertension, obesity, and micronutrient deficiencies. The article also reviews evidence suggesting that socioeconomic factors, availability, and awareness significantly influence consumption patterns. Overall, the literature supports promoting fruit and vegetable intake as a cost-effective public health strategy for improving nutritional status and preventing chronic diseases.
2) Perceived influences of fruit and vegetable consumption among Indian adolescents-A qualitative inquiry
Rathi, Worsley, Bruening (2025) said that, adequate fruit and vegetable consumption plays a crucial role in preventing non-communicable diseases and improving overall public health outcomes. Previous studies discussed in the paper indicate that dietary behaviors are strongly influenced by socioeconomic status, education, and food environment. The literature also emphasizes persistent gaps between recommended and actual intake levels across populations. Overall, the reviewed studies support the need for targeted nutrition policies and behavioral interventions to promote healthier dietary patterns.
Data Collection: To understand consumer ratings for selected fruits. Primary data was collected by creating google form and respondents were asked to rate each fruit on a scale of 1 to 10 based on their consumption. 40 students of ITM were surveyed and data was downloaded as excel sheet and Anova test was done on it.
Data Analysis:
Anova: Single Factor
