Introduction

In the digital age, social media platforms like Instagram have become an integral part of students’ lives. Initially designed for social networking and entertainment, Instagram has evolved into a powerful tool for education and learning. With features like educational reels, informative posts, live sessions, and study groups, students can access knowledge in a visually engaging and interactive way. However, while Instagram offers opportunities for learning, it also poses challenges such as distractions, misinformation, and reduced attention spans. This topic explores both the positive and negative impacts of Instagram on students’ learning experiences, highlighting its role in modern education.

Objective

To analyse the impact of Instagram on Students learning

Literature Review

The Influence of Instagram-Assisted Project Based Learning Model on Critical Thinking Skills

Popy (2020) stated that In the 21st century, communication, critical thinking, and leadership skills are essential. This study examines the impact of an Instagram-Assisted Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model on students’ critical thinking in sociology. Using a Quasi-Experimental design with a Nonrandomized Control Group Pretest–Post-tests approach, data were collected through validated multiple-choice tests and analyzed with parametric statistical methods. Findings revealed that the Instagram-Assisted PjBL model significantly improved students’ critical thinking, with the experimental group showing a greater increase than the control group. This suggests that Instagram-Assisted PjBL can enhance constructivist-oriented learning.

The Impact of excessive Instagram use on students’ academic study: a two-stage SEM and artificial neural network approach

Masrom et al (2023) stated that students often use Instagram frequently. The present study is the first to explore the use of UGT and multiple gratifications (i.e. social gratification, content gratification, and entertainment), social presence, and escapism and their association with EIU, and the association of EIU with students’ academic impairment. The results of the study provide insights into the negative consequences of excessive Instagram use. Providing a better understanding of the negative use of SNSs, and its effect on students’ academic performance would help universities and academic institutions to face important challenges when dealing with the SNS generation in academic environments.

Data Collection

For the above problem we framed 5 questions on the Likert Scale and we approached 100 students of KBS with google form. With the answers strongly agree, agree, neutral, disagree and strongly disagree. They were coded as 5,4,3,2 and 1. So that hypothesised mean is 3. Also, for each question mean, standard deviation, standard error and z – scores were calculated. The questions were as follows:

1. Instagram negatively impacts my mental health.

2. I feel addicted to using Instagram.

3. I check Instagram instead of completing assignments.

4. Limiting Instagram use improves my focus.

5. Instagram helps me stay socially connected.
