Introduction –
Food quality and availability in hostels play a crucial role in shaping the overall well-being and satisfaction of students. For many, hostel food is their primary source of daily nutrition, and its adequacy and variety significantly impact their health, academic performance, and general living experience. This research project aims to examine the current state of food services in hostels, evaluating factors such as nutritional value, hygiene standards, variety, and student preferences. By understanding these elements, the project seeks to provide insights into how hostel food services can be improved to meet the needs and expectations of students.
Objective – To understand the underlying phenomena of mess food of hostel.
Literature Review –
Article 1 :
The practice of improper food handling and lack of knowledge in food hygiene among food handlers can lead to inadequate nutrition, malnutrition and nutritional deficiencies.
Article 2 :
There is a need for students with food allergies to be aware of the ingredients and allergens used in campus canteen meals, and also for international students to get comfortable with the local cuisine. Additionally, students living in the hostels need to have access to the mess menu to make decisions about their meals, particularly in case of food allergies.
Data collection – To understand the above problem five questions were framed on likert scale. Google form where used students of ITM were surveyed. For each question mean, standard deviations, standard error, Z was calculated.

 - I like the hygiene of the mess food.
 - I like the timing of the mess food provided to us.
 - I like the variety of dishes provided in the mess.
