Impact of Movies on Students
Author: Mrunali Ghadashi, Pratiksha Shete, Swapnil Mishra.
Introduction:
Movies can have a big effect on students. They can make students think about life in a different way, compare their lives to what they see in movies, and even copy behaviors from movie characters. From this study, we’ll look at five ways that how movies impact students, like making them believe things that aren’t true or affecting how they feel emotionally. Understanding these effects can help us to know how movies shape the lives of students.
Objective:
To understand the underlying issues of the problem.
Literature review:
- Impact of Films: Changes in Young People’s Attitudes after Watching a Movie
Kubrak T. (2020) focused on young people because they’re the ones who watch the most movies. We asked them to tell us how they felt about elderly people before and after watching a specific film. We used different measures to see how the movie affected their thoughts, feelings, and motivations. What we found was interesting. Postgraduate students became more positive towards the elderly after watching the film, while undergraduates actually became more negative. This difference was influenced by things like age, education, and their past experiences with elderly people. We also learned that a single movie viewing didn’t have a lasting impact on people’s attitudes. This tells us that there’s more to understand about how movies can really change our minds.
2. Impact of online information on the diffusion of movies: Focusing on cultural differences.
Lee, et al. (2021). emphasize the importance of understanding why people buy movie tickets. Some are influenced by trailers and ads (trendsetters), while others rely on recommendations from friends (followers). In the digital age, consumers access movie information online, affecting product diffusion. Cultural differences also impact consumer behaviour. Their study uses the Bass diffusion model to explore how movies spread in diverse markets and identify key factors driving trendsetting and following behaviours.
Data Collection:
For the above problem, 5 questions were framed on Likert scale with 1-5 points. 100 Students from KBS were surveyed and for each question which was coded as 1 to 5- Mean, Standard Deviation, Standard Error and t-stat was calculated

Conclusion:
The study shows that while movies can sometimes make students feel like their personal lives are unrealistic, the overall effect is neither positive nor negative. Movies help them think about their own lives by comparing them to the exciting stories they see in films. They often copy behaviours from movie characters in their own lives, even though this can lead to problems. They may or may not trust movies based on true stories without checking the facts for themselves. Movies have a positive impact on student’s emotional sentiments, influencing their feelings in meaningful ways.
