Introduction :

The commuting experience can significantly impact college life, influencing students’ academic performance, social interactions, health, and overall well-being. The nature of this impact can vary widely, depending on factors such as the distance, mode of transportation, and the time required for commuting. Here are several ways in which commuting can affect college life such as Reduced Campus Engagement, Social Isolation etc.

Objective : To understand the underlying issues of Impact of Commuting Experience on College Life.

Literature Review :

 1.Commute satisfaction and its relationship to post-secondary students’ campus participation and success

  • In their research paper, Taylor & Mitra (2021) collected data from 2,893 students from 10 Canadian universities and colleges. It was found that commuting was a barrier to campus participation and academic success. Commute mode and duration, explained satisfaction. The effect of commute time on satisfaction varied across travel modes.

2.The Impact of Commute on Students’ Performance

  • In the research paper, Jamil et. al. (2022)  highlights the adverse effects of commuting on student performance, encompassing academic success, physical health, and social well-being. The study emphasizes the need for awareness and policy interventions to mitigate these negative impacts

Data Collection : To understand the underlying issues of Impact of Commuting Experience on College Life.

The following is the Questionnaire in which we surveyed 100 students from the college campus.

  1. My college commute is lengthy
  2. I have missed classes due to commuting
  3. Commuting impacts my energy levels and mood
  4. Commuting limits my participation in college activities
  5. Commuting stress affects my mental well-being

On being surveyed by 100 students within the campus ,we found out the following data :

Conclusion :

Question 1 : Students are agree that their college commute is lengthy.

Question 2: Students are neutral that they missed classes due to commuting.

Question 3 : Students are agree that commuting impacts on their energy levels and moods.

Question 4 : Students are agree that commuting limits their participation in college activities.

Question 5 : Students are agree that commuting stress affects their mental well-being.
