Introduction:

In today’s digital age, the widespread adoption of Over-The-Top (OTT) streaming platforms has transformed our entertainment consumption habits. While these platforms offer unparalleled convenience and a plethora of content, there is a growing concern about their potential impact on sleep patterns. As individuals indulge in binge-watching sessions late into the night, the alluring world of OTT content might inadvertently disrupt sleep routines, leading to an exploration of the intricate relationship between digital entertainment and our precious rest.

Objective: To study how OTT platform impact sleep and changes routine schedule.

Literature Review:

The effect of watching OTT late at night on the sleep pattern of users

This study examines the shift from real-time broadcasting to OTT streaming’s impact on sleep using the difference-in-difference method. Matching with precision via random forest nearest-neighbour propensity scores, it reveals late-night OTT use reduces sleep by 18-20 minutes (up to 30 at 95% confidence) and delays bedtime by about 18 minutes (up to 26 at 95% confidence), disrupting established sleep patterns.

Effects of Binge Watching on Sleep Deprivation & Mental Health

This study explores binge watching’s impact on sleep and health. Analyzing 100 participants across ages, it finds strong correlations between binge viewing, sleep patterns, and overall wellness. The research underscores how binge watching relates to sleep deprivation and declining health, emphasizing the need for moderation and healthcare awareness.

Data Collection:

Based on the above problem following questions were asked to the students of Kohinoor Business School based on “Likert scale”-

1) I watch OTT for more than 5 hours a day

2) My sleep schedule has been disturbed.

3) I cannot sleep without using OTT platform

4) I sleep more than 5hrs.

5) I often stay awake past my usual bedtime to watch content on OTT platforms.

100 students were surveyed.

For each Question – Mean. Standard deviation, Standard Error and Z has been calculated.
