Introduction: Instagram addiction is become a major issue for the younger generation in today’s digital world. Many young people are getting trapped in a loop of never-ending scrolling, and feeling anxious because they are afraid of losing out on the latest online trends and events. This addiction may have an adverse effect on their mental health, interpersonal interactions, and hamper their academic or professional development. Promoting digital literacy, and cultivating a balanced approach to social media use are all necessary for tackling Instagram’s addiction among young people.
Objective: To understand the underlying issues of Instagram addiction among youth.
Literature Review:
Social media addiction effect on job performance
Zivnuska, Suzanne, et al (2019) states the effects of individual’s addiction towards social media, especially Instagram, on their ability to perform at work. They explored the effects of excessive social media use on workers’ focus, engagement, and productivity at work. They highlighted the possible harm that social media addiction may have on work-related outcomes and provides information on the necessity for people to strike a healthy balance between their online activities and their responsibilities as professionals. (Zivnuska, Suzanne, et al 2019)
Relationships Between Instagram Use, Social Support, and Psychological Well-Being
HA SUNG HWNAG (2018) states the relationship between people’s use of Instagram and their perceptions of social support and overall mental health. They explored whether engaging in social interactions and sharing content on the site is linked to better perceptions of social support and improved psychological wellbeing. Moreover they did deeper understanding of the complicated relationship between social media involvement and well-being by shedding light on the possible benefits of Instagram’s use on people’s sense of connection and mental health. Data Collection:
Based on the problem to understand the issues of instagram addiction among youth following questions were asked using likert scale.
- I struggle in setting my limit on usage of Instagram.
- I tend to compare my life to others on Instagram.
- I use Instagram as a mode of break while studying.
- I stay up late at night due to prolonged Instagram usage.
- I find it difficult to ignore Instagram notifications.
100 students of Kohinoor Business School were surveyed with answers as 1) Strongly agree, 2) Agree, 3) Neutral, 4) Disagree, 5) Strongly disagree.

Result: Youths are neutral towards Instagram addiction.
Conclusion:
- People are struggling in setting limit on usage of Instagram.
- People do not tend to compare their lives with others on Instagram.
- People are neutral towards using Instagram as a mode of break while studying.
- People are neutral towards staying up late at night due to prolonged Instagram usage.
- People are neutral towards finding it difficult to ignore Instagram notifications.
