• Objective: Calculation of beta of Abbott India ltd. And its significance
• Literature review:
1. The logarithmic return series of NIFTY 50 is not normally distributed and return series doesn’t support random walk theory and thus inefficient in its weak form during the pandemic period based on parametric as well as non-parametric test approaches. However, the return series of NIFTY 50 index supports random walk behavior during this pandemic period and the market is also efficient in its weak form based on runs test. (Roy, 2022)
2. They find that (i) intraday volatility of stock returns in the NSE follows the expected U-shaped pattern; (ii) 11:00 to 12:00 is the time period exhibiting the least volatility;(iii) hourly intraday volatility of the Nifty 50 has been decreasing steadily since 2011; and (iv) there is insufficient evidence to show that development in the Indian economy has led to lower volatility in its stock market. (Singh & Gangwar, 2018)
• Data collection: The data was collected from NSE (www.nseindia.com) website from 1 April 2022 to 31 March 2023.Data was manipulated by Friday closing prices. Weekly Returns of NIFTY are termed as X. weekly Returns of Abbott India Ltd. industries is termed as Y. By doing regression through data analysis various values such as b, t stat, R^2, F, standard deviation & standard error were calculated.
• Data Analysis:
1. Abbott India returns = 0.42286+0.2006 nifty returns
(0.9694)
2. N=51
3. R square= 0.0188
4. F= 0.9398
5. Significance= 0.3370
Above equation shows relationship between Nifty(X) and Abbott India ltd.(Y). positive sign means there is direct relationship which means if X Rises Y also rises and vice versa. In this equation b = 0.2006 if X rises one-unit demand will rise 0.2006 units. t- stat for b (0.9694) is more than the table value so b is statistically significant at 5% level. R2 is 0.0188 which means 1.8% of y is explained by x. similarly f is 0.9398 which is also more than table value means overall module is statistically significant at 5% level.
• Conclusion: As beta (0.2006) is less than 1 company is good for long term investment.
