Title: Causes of Academic Depression faced by students

Introduction:
Academic stress is defined as a student’s psychological state resulting from continuous social and self-imposed pressure in a school environment that depletes the student’s psychological reserves Based on the stress response theory, students exposed to a high academic stress environment may experience anxiety, and this anxiety may further contribute to the occurrence of depression. The other factor which may mediate the effect of academic stress on depressive symptoms is hopelessness.
Objective: To understand the phenomenon of the causes of Academic Depression faced by students.
Literature Review:
1. Prevalence of stress , anxiety and depression due to examination in Bangladeshi Youths : A pilot study
An estimated 25% people suffer from mental health disorders worldwide. Almost 7 million suffer from anxiety and depression in Bangladesh. There are several factors that can cause stress among youths, both academic and non-academic, ranging from socioeconomic, environmental, cultural and psychological attributes. However, these are not widely researched in Bangladesh. (Arusha et al, 2020)
2. Effect of Individual Counselling on academic Performance of Under achievers a Pupil in maimusari Public Primary school, Jere Local Government Area, borno State, Nigeria
The findings of the study discovered that coming late to school, not having complete learning material, depression, anxiety and teachers attitude in the classroom were the major causes of underachievement in Maimusari primary school. The study also revealed that individual counselling helped the pupils in overcoming their learning barriers. (Joseph et al ,2019)
Data Collection:
1. I have been forced by parents to score higher in academics.
2. I feel annoyed or depressed by giving several interviews but not getting selected.
3. I being depressed by not expressing or presenting myself in front of others.
4. I suffered from angry outbursts, irritability or frustration, even over small matters.
5. I feel stressed or depressed for managing things at a time.
The Questions are asked on scale 1 to 5 linear scale
1- strongly Disagree
2- Disagree
3- Neutral
4-Agree
5-Strongly Agree
We got the survey with help of google form. we gathered the data from friends and the data was downloaded in excel sheet.
Mean, Median, Standard deviation, tstat was calculated.

Conclusions:
1. Students have not been forced by parents to score higher in academics.
2. Students don’t feel annoyed or depressed by giving several interviews but not getting selected.
3. Students are not being depressed by not expressing or presenting themself in front of others.
4. Students don’t suffer from angry outbursts, irritability or frustration, even over small matters.
5. Students don’t feel stressed or depressed for managing things at a time.
