1. Introduction:
Due to covid -19 the usage of social media has increased. The increase in usage is because during pandametic their where lockdowns to control the spread of virus and all the people were at their homes and spend their more time on the social media platforms. Since the last few decades, technology, the most adopted means of communication by individuals especially the millennials or the youth is the social media platforms. The term media was however derived from the Latin word ‘Medium’ and is defined as one of the main routes, channels, or instruments for communication and/or entertainment (Oxford Dictionary and Thesaurus, 2009). The word socio is also a Latin word; socius, which is referred to as ‘friend’.
“Socius and Medium’, Latin Words, we could, therefore, generate the definition of social media to be the interaction amongst individuals in which they create, share, and/or exchange ideas and information in virtual societies and networks. The presence of these social media platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter have therefore helped to connect people both afar and near together through the exchange of text, photos, music, videos, and much more.
2. Objective:
To study the impact of social media during covid-19.
3. Literature Review:
3.1 Impacts of Social Media on our Life.
We can see the impact of social media in our daily life.
3.1. A. THE IMPACT OF SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS ON STUDENTS:
Darko-Adjei, N., & Zewu, P. K. Y. (2021) says that the importance of social media, it is thus no surprise that numerous individuals around the globe, including youth specifically students, make use of it. It indicates that approximately 250 million people utilize Facebook every day, with Twitter having fifteen million users sending sixty-five million messages every day. On YouTube, studies indicate that there are over two billion people who watch YouTube video clips daily while “24 hours of video content are uploaded every hour. On the above data he indicates that, most of the students that make use of the social media platform are undergraduate students. In that, at the undergraduate level, the majority of the students have access to smartphones and laptops with access to all social media platforms. Following the belief that social media has an impact on undergraduate students, the impact could either be positive or negative hence this study; to help assess the kind of impact the usage of social media has on undergraduate students.
3.1. B. THE IMPACT OF THE SOCIAL MEDIA TECHNOLOGY ON HIGHER EDUCATION:
Manca, S.; Ranieri, M. says that the role in higher education have contributed to the overwhelming popularity of social media. These involve the study of the association between the use of social media by higher education researchers for professional and teaching purposes; use of social media for learning concerning the learning styles of students; online social networks’ effect on the academic success; learner-generated knowledge and its impact on student achievement and satisfaction and success indicators of social media usage and mature critical thinking and trade.
3.1. C. EFFECTS OF SOCIAL MEDIA ON THE ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF STUDENTS:
Iqbal, Zeb, & Hussain (2018) says that impacts of social media usage on the academic performance of university students, using social media for academic activities significantly affects the educational performance, in a positive way, of the students who were measured using the cumulative grade-point average (CGPA). Many students used social media as a helping tool for understanding some problematic subjects with their courses and created groups to share information. The study continued that respondents who used social media sites as educational tools mentioned that it had positive impact on their performance.
3.1. D. USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA BY CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE, AND THE EFFECTS ON THEIR WELL-BEING.
Swist et al.(2010) says that from the age of five, nearly all of the children researched regularly access the Internet, and are spending more and more time online through a mobile device or phone that makes their access more personalised and frequent. Usage of social media during young is associated with poor sleep quality, anxiety, and depression, with a decline in subjective well-being as well as hyperactivity disorder, as social media is easily used. They says that the positive effects of social media on well-being, including the positives of the amount of time spent in the SM environment, experts show that young people who use selected social networks report higher social media uses.
3.1. E. THE IMPACT OF SEX AND PERSONALITY TRAITS ON SOCIAL MEDIA USE DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC
Chen, E.; Lerman, K.; Ferrara, E. says In COVID-19 PANDEMIC as people met less often in person in public places, they discussed the issues in social media. In the first months, media reports about the disease were published and shared, especially over social platforms. As a result, the COVID-19 pandemic is referred to as the first-ever social media infodemic. Social media users have played an important part since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic by sharing information on its current status, disease prevention, and healthcare statistics.
3.1. F. THE IMPACT OF SOCIAL MEDIA USE ON THE MARKETING:
Social Media play an important role as a marketing tool in the digital era.
Felix et al. (2017) consider SM as an interdisciplinary and cross-functional marketing tool. This tool is often connected to traditional marketing methods. Compared to traditional marketing methods, SM is a more current marketing tool with lower cost and higher efficiency.
3.1. G. THE IMPACT OF FAKE NEWS IN SOCIAL MEDIA
Pulido et al.(2020) says that there is also fake news on social media so he identify what type of health information is false and what type of information is evidence shared on the social media. To get the evidence he analysis of Twitter, Facebook and Reddit unveils the different types of interactions regarding evidence or fake news, but they all have the common pattern of showing more messages of events or fact-related information about Ebola, nutrition and vaccines.
3, 1. H. SOCIAL MEDIA BULLYING IN THE WORKPLACE AND ITS IMPACT ON WORK ENGAGEMENT:
Aizza Anwar(2022) says now a days the bullying that was done physical and face-to-face; it is now done using information and communication technology, such as social media and the internet. Workplace cyberbullying is not only done to office hours and official internet platforms. Employees can be targeted even outside the office and at their homes through social media.
3.1. I. THE EFFECTS OF SOCIAL MEDIA USE ON THE HEALTH OF OLDER ADULTS

(2021), the data he used in this study are from 2017 Chinese General Social Survey (CGSS), he says that older adults are becoming more and more closely connected to the online world. The use of internet has an effect on the physical and mental health of older adults, whether the effect was positive or negative. So they used the data from 2017 Chinese General Social Survey (CGSS), to analyze the effects of social media use on the physical and mental health of older adults. The results indicated that there was a significant positive relationship between social media use and the health of older adults.
3.1. J. THE IMPACT OF SOCIAL MEDIA ACTIVITIES ON RAISING BRAND AWARENESS DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC:
Rrustemi, V., & Baca, G. (2021) he aim of the research was to determine whether social media activities (advertising, sharing, influencers, entertainment, and interaction) affect brand awareness and see how these variables interact with one another. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and regression analysis were employed to examine the relationships between variables, hypotheses, and the impact of social media activities on brand awareness.
4. CONCLUSION:
This study was done to understand the various impact of social media during covid-19. In this study we found that the uses of social media platform was more during pandemic. We saw the positive and negative impact of social media in many sector.
