Introduction <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Attending classes is an important component in determining the effectiveness of students\u2019 performances. Regular attendance in classes helps the students gain proper comprehension of the subjects, engage in discussions, and eliminate doubts. This study acknowledges the relationship between attending classes and passing examination performances to establish the effects of regular attendance in classes on students\u2019 performances. It may enable the institution to devise ways of enhancing the performances of the students.<\/span><\/p>\n

Objectives of the Study<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>To analyze the relationship between students\u2019 class attendance percentage and their examination scores.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>To examine how variations in attendance levels impact overall academic performance.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>Literature Review <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

According to Romer (1993), <\/b>class attendance has a significant positive impact on students\u2019 academic performance, as regular participation enhances understanding and retention of subject matter. His study found that students who frequently attended lectures scored higher in examinations compared to those with irregular attendance. Similarly, Cred\u00e9, Roch, and Kieszczynka (2010)<\/b> emphasized that attendance is one of the strongest predictors of academic success, even more influential than prior academic ability. Their findings suggest that classroom engagement plays a crucial role in reinforcing learning outcomes.<\/span><\/p>\n

A study conducted by Moore, Armstrong, and Pearson (2008)<\/b> revealed that students with higher attendance levels demonstrated better academic discipline and exam preparedness. The researchers concluded that consistent classroom exposure allows students to clarify doubts, participate in discussions, and grasp complex concepts more effectively. Furthermore, Newman-Ford et al. (2008)<\/b> highlighted that poor attendance is often associated with lower motivation and weaker academic performance, reinforcing the importance of maintaining regular class attendance to achieve better examination results.<\/span><\/p>\n

Data Collection <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

The following questions were used to collect primary data from respondents regarding the effect of class attendance on examination performance. Responses were recorded using a Likert scale.<\/span><\/p>\n

  2. Attending lectures improves my overall exam performance.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. I feel more confident in exams when I attend classes regularly.<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Missing classes negatively affects my exam preparation.<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. In-class explanations are more helpful than self-study alone for exams.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The Data was quoted as 5 for strongly agree, 4 for agree, 3 for neutral, 2 for disagree and 1 for strongly disagree.<\/span><\/p>\n

    100 <\/span><\/b>students of ITM<\/b> were surveyed and data was collected as csv file.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

    Based on the statistical results, the null hypothesis is rejected, and the alternative hypothesis is accepted, indicating that class attendance has a significant impact on students\u2019 exam performance.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Conclusion<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

    The study clearly indicates that class attendance has a significant positive effect on students\u2019 examination performance. Regular attendance enhances understanding of course content, encourages active participation in class discussions, and improves confidence during exams. Statistical analysis of the collected data shows that students who attend classes consistently perform better academically than those with irregular attendance. These findings highlight the importance of maintaining good attendance and suggest that educational institutions should implement strategies to motivate students to attend classes regularly for improved learning outcomes.<\/span><\/p>\n
