The company serves clients across sectors including healthcare, industrial automation, and technology services. As a mid-sized IT firm listed on NSE, its stock performance may be influenced by overall market movements represented by the Nifty 50 index. Studying this relationship helps in understanding the market risk associated with the company.

OBJECTIVE:

The objective of the study is to calculate the beta of Mindteck (India) Ltd and to observe the significance of its relationship with Nifty 50 returns.

LITERATURE REVIEW:

Sharpe (1964) introduced the Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM), which explains the relationship between expected return and market risk. The study emphasized that beta is a measure of systematic risk and indicates how sensitive a stock’s return is to changes in market returns. According to the model, stocks with higher beta are more volatile and offer higher expected returns compared to the market.

Fama and French (2004) critically examined the CAPM and highlighted the importance of market factors in explaining stock returns. Their study found that market movements significantly influence individual stock performance, supporting the use of regression analysis to estimate beta. The research reinforced the relevance of beta as a key indicator of market-related risk in equity investments.

DATA COLLECTION:

Data for Mindteck (India) Ltd and Nifty 50 were collected from the official website of the National Stock Exchange of India (www.nseindia.com) for the period from 1st December 2024 to 30th November 2025. Friday closing prices were identified, and weekly returns were calculated for both the company and the Nifty 50 index. Weekly returns of Nifty 50 were taken as the independent variable (X), while weekly returns of Mindteck (India) Ltd were taken as the dependent variable (Y). Regression analysis was carried out by regressing Y on X.

DATA ANALYSIS:

Y = 1.653 + 1.744X

N = 35, R² = 0.160, F = 6.301, p-value = 0.017

The above equation shows the relationship between the weekly returns of Mindteck (India) Ltd and the weekly returns of the Nifty 50 index. The positive beta value of 1.744 indicates a positive relationship between market returns and company returns, which means that both move in the same direction. If the Nifty 50 return increases by 1 unit, the return of Mindteck (India) Ltd increases by 1.744 units, indicating that the stock is more volatile than the market.

The p-value of 0.017 is less than 0.05, which indicates that the beta coefficient is statistically significant at the 5% level of significance. The number of observations (N = 35) represents the total number of common weekly trading observations considered in the study.

The R² value of 0.160 indicates that 16% of the variation in the weekly returns of Mindteck (India) Ltd is explained by changes in the Nifty 50 returns, while the remaining 84% variation is due to other firm-specific and external factors that are not included in the model. The F-statistic value of 6.301 with a p-value of 0.017, which is less than 0.05, indicates that the overall regression model is statistically significant.

CONCLUSION:

Since the beta value of Mindteck (India) Ltd is greater than 1, the stock is more volatile than the market. Therefore, the stock is suitable for short-term investment when the Nifty 50 is expected to rise, as it tends to amplify market movements.

REFERENCES:

– National Stock Exchange of India.
