Introduction:<\/u><\/strong> –<\/u><\/strong> Mumbai faces a big issue called traffic congestion, where there’s too much traffic on the roads. The roads get crowded with cars, buses, and other vehicles, making it hard for them to move smoothly. This problem causes delays for people trying to reach their destinations, like work or school. It also leads to increased stress for drivers and pedestrians alike. The narrow roads and a high number of vehicles contribute to this problem. Traffic jams are common during peak hours, creating frustration among commuters. The air quality suffers due to vehicles idling in traffic, causing pollution. Finding effective solutions, like improving public transportation and road infrastructure, is crucial to ease this congestion.<\/p>\n

Objective: –<\/u><\/strong> To understand the underlying phenomenon of Traffic Congestion in Mumbai<\/p>\n

Literature Review: –<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Article 1: \u201cPolice spot \u2018Pain-points\u2019 in city\u2019s traffic flow\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The article explains the major traffic areas of Mumbai which includes, Bandra-Kurla Complex, Western Express Highway and T2, Bandra West, Borivali West Station, Churchgate Station. Mumbai Traffic Police have identified the worst-affected traffic spots and have shared solutions to avoid these traffic jams.<\/p>\n

Article 2: \u201cThe Cost of Congestion: A case study of Mumbai\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>This article talks about the cost that every individual pays because of traffic congestion in\u00a0\u00a0 Mumbai and other cities in India. \u2018The average Mumbai resident wastes 11 days a year stuck in traffic\u2019, suggests the article. The article also suggests few solutions to improve ease of movement.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n

Data Collection:<\/u><\/strong> –<\/strong> 5 questions were put on a Google form and were circulated to 100 students of the ITM. For every question, the mean, standard deviation, standard error, and t-stat were calculated. This data was primarily collected by us.<\/p>\n

Que 2-<\/strong> I think public transport gets really crowded.<\/p>\n

Result- <\/strong>For question 2 accept the alternative hypothesis<\/strong> as t-stat = 4.35 which is more than 1.96. Therefore, people thinks that public transport gets really crowded.<\/p>\n

Que 3-<\/strong> I feel that there’s not enough space on the roads in Mumbai.<\/p>\n

Result- <\/strong>For question 3 accept the alternative hypothesis<\/strong> as t-stat = 2.16 which is more than 1.96. Therefore, people of Mumbai feel that there\u2019s not enough space on roads.<\/p>\n

Que 4-<\/strong> My view is that more and more people are moving to the city.<\/p>\n

Result- <\/strong>For question 4 accept the alternative hypothesis<\/strong> as t-stat = 3.51 which is more than 1.96. Therefore, People of Mumbai are of the view that more and more people are moving to the city.<\/p>\n

Que 5-<\/strong> I think in Mumbai people often get stuck in traffic and arrive late.<\/p>\n

Result- <\/strong>For question 5 accept the alternative hypothesis<\/strong> as t-stat = 3.24 which is more than 1.96. Therefore, People of Mumbai accept the fact that they get stuck in traffic and arrive late.<\/p>\n
