Introduction-
\nMumbai’s local rail network is the busiest commuter train system in the world; with 7.5 million people using the trains to commute daily, it is no surprise that overcrowding, here, reaches epic proportions. Through the research we are aiming to conclude what problems people face in a crowded local train.<\/p>\n
Objective-
\nTo understand and analyze people\u2019s views on travelling in crowded local trains.<\/p>\n
Data Collection-
\nFor the given problem five questions were framed on the Likert Scale
\nFollowing are the five questions and their Null and Alternative Hypothesis:<\/p>\n
1)I feel stressed while travelling in a local train
\nNull Hypothesis: People feel stressed while travelling in a local train.
\nAlternative Hypothesis: People do not feel stressed while travelling in a local train.<\/p>\n
2)I feel unsafe travelling in a local train
\nNull Hypothesis: People feel unsafe travelling in a local train.
\nAlternative Hypothesis: People feel safe travelling in a local train.<\/p>\n
3)I have a fear to get in the train due to heavy crowd
\nNull Hypothesis: People have a fear to get in the train due to heavy crowd.
\nAlternative Hypothesis: People do not have a fear to get in the train due to heavy crowd.<\/p>\n
4)I am conscious while travelling in a crowded local train
\nNull Hypothesis: People are conscious while travelling in a crowded local train.
\nAlternative Hypothesis: People are not conscious while travelling in a crowded local train.<\/p>\n
5)I have to be aware that I don\u2019t miss my destination due to heavy crowd
\nNull Hypothesis: People have to be aware that they don\u2019t miss their destination due to heavy crowd.
\nAlternative Hypothesis: People don\u2019t have to be aware that they don\u2019t miss their destination due to heavy crowd.<\/p>\n
We prepared a Google form which had the questions and it was sent to college students and people who use and travel by train daily on a regular basis in Mumbai. A total of 118 people responded to our survey.
\nThe options on the Likert scale were \u201cStrongly Agree\u201d, \u201cAgree\u201d, \u201cNeutral\u201d, \u201cDisagree\u201d, \u201cStrongly Disagree\u201d.
\nWe then converted the collected data into an excel sheet, and the result was calculated with the formula Z = (x-\u00b5)\/SE, where \u00b5 was taken as \u20180\u2019. Since the scale is from -2 for Strongly Disagree to +2 for Strongly Agree.<\/p>\n
