1. Introduction:

The concept of caste system and religious discrimination are like a bane on the path of India’s progress. And when we talk about Indian marriages which are inter-caste and inter-religious, it seems like a taboo to most of the people. But in order to eradicate the caste system it is important that there should be inter-caste marriage. Indians have an orthodox mindset. They couldn’t imagine marriages beyond the same caste. Those who dare for the inter-caste marriage by violating the social norm had to face the consequence in terms of violence, social boycott, family boycott and death ( honour killing).

2. Objectives:

This survey was conducted to get the views of people on inter-caste marriage and whether they consider it has a solution to remove the barrier of caste system.

3. Views and Reviews:

According to Manju Modiyani , author and content developer, ” Marriage is a sacred institution. Let’s not malign it with our baseless arguments and inhuman approach.

According to The Hindu, ” Just 5% of Indian marriages are inter-caste.”
According to Times Of India, ” Inter-caste marriage is an awkward proposal.”

4.Research Methodology:

In the light of the above problem we surveyed 100 persons from our society, friends, college, colleague and family. We used questionnaire method (primary data collection) for conducting our survey with the help of
Liker-scale. Data was coded as +2,+1,0,-1 and -2.

+2 for strongly agree,

+1 for agree,

0 for neutral,

-1 for disagree and

-2 for strongly disagree.

Following are the 6 statements which were framed and put to the respondents on Liker-scale;

1. Inter-caste marriage will eradicate dowry issues.

2.Inter-caste marriage will unite India by destroying caste system.

3.Inter-caste marriage should be accepted as feelings don’t come with a bio-data asking our caste.

4. Inter-caste is likely to end in divorce or separation.

5.In inter-caste marriage people are afraid of losing their name and fame in society.

6. The couple will forget all about their own religion and its teachings.

After rectifying missing entries, data was put into an excel sheet.

Calculations were done using the following formula;

1. Mean

Mean = ∑x ∕ N

2. Standard Deviation(SD)

SD = [∑ (X- (Mean) ^0.5] ∕ [N-1]

3. Standard Error(SE)

SE = S.D.∕ √N

4. Z score

Z score = (X-0) ∕ (S.D. /√N)

If Z> 1.96, ACCEPTED THE STATEMENT

IF Z -1.96, STATEMENT IS NEUTRAL

IF Z < -1.96, REJECTED THE STATEMENT

5 .Data Analysis:

MEAN 25.5 26.16 19.83 18.33 9.83

STD.
DEVIATION 14.7844 13.8499 7.8062 12.4369 15.6749
COUNTS 100 100 100 100 100
STD.

ERROR 1.47844 1.38499 0.78062 1.24369 1.56749
Z 17.2479 18.8930 25.4072 14.7411 6.2733

Based on the analysis of data, following conclusions were made;
Statement 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 are acceptable as their z score is greater than
1.96.

6.Conclusion:

We conclude that inter-caste marriages is a unifying factor in a nation whereas caste system is a curse. People should be more open to accept Love as feelings don’t come with a bio-data asking our caste and creed. Indian parents are really conservative because most of them are aware with the “Log kya kahenge?” issue.

So instead of thinking too much about the society, they should be concerned of what would bring happiness in the lives of their own bloodline.
